OK, I am pleased to announce that a new song has graduated into full rotation. Since first being played by the Sexy Accident, "All Surface" has demonstrated exemplary leadership, integrity, charisma and community awareness. Before serving as a Sexy Accident song, "All Surface" was a twinkle in my mind's eye and a whisp on the collective unconscious. Now, "All Surface" has proven itself worthy of the mega-standards of The Sexy Accident by exhibiting unique and unusual tonality, an evocative mood, nifty guitar work, and lyrics of a certain sophistication. When you next hear it, please welcome "All Surface" with open ears and congratulate it on its promotion.
Oh, "All Surface" asked me to share its lyrics with you, such that you might recognize it better when you come across it by the water cooler.
All Surface
float away, winter give a rest to your test climb aboard, summer a gentle breeze stirs the trees
stay a while, lover make me feel like I'm real turn your face to me let me know before you go
why they don't know me like they should know me like they said they would and I don't mean it and they can't see it like I wish they could
did you sail, sister around the world, clever girl as you span oceans locked by land, not my plan
and I don't know me like I should know me like I thought I would and they don't mean it and I can't see it like I wish I could
I'm tired of being here fading to one with no purpose all surface coming undone
did you hear, father they called my bluff, I'm not so tough cut my chest open found a plan, but not the man
and they don't know me like they should know me like they said they would and I don't mean it and they can't see it like I wish they could
I'm tired of being here fading to one with no purpose all surface coming undone
I'm tired of being here fading to one with no purpose all surface coming undone

In other news, "I Just Need My Car" has turned out to be a bit of a scamp. In its most recent HR evaluation, "I Just Need my Car" was called out for attendance issues, an awkward and overly-abrupt key change, violating the dress code, unsportsmanlike conduct and generally just giving us all a lot of sass. As a result, "I Just Need My Car" has been promoted to President, North Supply division and you will probably never see it again.
We'll have more information for you at our upcoming all-hands meeting, scheduled for whenever I flippin' feel like it. Thanks for all that you do. There are cookies over there on the counter. And some bourbon.
I don't know about all of y'all, but I'm dragging today. It's hot hot hot in the Kansas City. I was up late rocking out at Jerry's Bait Shop (thanks to everyone who came out!), and I didn't sleep terribly well, and now I'm back at work trying to find some focus.
Last night's show was good. Our set got cut short, which was a bummer, so we only played two songs with Chad, our new guitarist: My Girl from Kinda Like Fireworks and our cover of Uptown Girl by Billy Joel! :) Both went over really well.
The lollipop factory rocked my world with their soccer pants, fitted t-s, wall of amps and tophat (singular.) It made me want to work on our look. That stuff doesn't come naturally to me, though.
Thankfully, it's almost lunch. A little walking and talking and eating will do me good.
OK, so I think I'm becoming a huge Guided By Voices fan. I don't know why it's taken me so long. I knew I would like them ('cuz Chris from .pointfive does), but for some reason I didn't check them out until now. I bought Bee Thousand and Isolation Drills from Needmore Discs because Colleen recommended those albums, and I like both extremes of production. The songs are just great, and Robert Pollard's lyrics are such a weird, perfect blend of focused abstraction.
So yeah, another great band! And I think GBV deserve the CONSUME EVERYTHING approach that I reserve for my favorites.
Three shows this month! At each of these buggers, we'll be playing a number of nifty new tunes and introducing you to our new guitarist, Chad Toney! Chad brings a whole new level of rock and lead-line spaghetti to the band. We think he's very saucy, and we're sure you will, too!
Wednesday July 16 - The High Noon Saloon - Leavenworth, KS - 8pm
Jesse will be playing about 45 minutes worth of old, current and NEW tunes on his good old acoustic guitar. As far as we know, the show is free, but don't challenge him to a pistol duel if we're wrong!
The High Noon Saloon is located at 206 Choctaw St. in Leavenworth, KS
Thursday July 17 - The Brick - Kansas City, MO - 10pm
Chad's first show! We'll be playing two new songs: 1) "All Surface," a brooding, gorgeous number that alternates between spacious ambiance and full on DRIVE and 2) "I just need my car," a poppy, jangly tune about tying up the last loose ends after a messy break up... we'll also be whipping out our first COVER, of a tune that I will not name. You will love it. Those at our last show at Prospero's Books know what I'm talkin' 'bout.
We'll be playing with Merch, from San Francisco
The Brick is located at 1727 Mcgee St. in Kansas City, MO
Monday July 21 - Jerry's Bait Shop - Lee's Summit, MO - 8pm
This time we'll be rocking the suburbs as part of the Jerry's Bait Shop Midwest Music Showcase. We'll be playing with The Waystation and The Lollipop Factory. Jerry's is a very fun place to watch a show. We hope to see you there!
Jerry's is located at 302 SW Main St. in Lee's Summit, MO
Do we have any fans out yonder way? We're having a heck of a time getting a show set up. Anyone know any bands or people who might be able to help us out? We would be eternally grateful.
